8 Steps to in-office whitening success:
GentleWhite produces superior whitening with any type of dental light. But using a pulse-mode whitening PAC light such as IMDS Cure & Whiten 100 can automate the process, making it more productive for the dental staff and more relaxing for the patient. The following procedures assume the use of this type of light. The entire cycle takes less than one hour.

1. The whitening procedure starts with a thorough check-up of the patient's teeth. Prior to beginning the procedure, it is advised to take a "before" picture including a matching color sample on the Vita® shade guide to define the patient's original tooth color.

2. To eliminate plaque and tartar stains and other irregularities the teeth are next cleaned and rinsed, but not dried. Best results are achieved if the teeth are not dry.

3. A cheek retractor is positioned.

4. Gel is applied to the labial and lingual surfaces of the teeth, leaving a 1mm margin from gum tissue. GentleWhite has a unique technology, Extracted Aqueous Barrier or EAB, which automatically generates a barrier that peroxide will not cross, protecting the gingival tissues from burning and the dentinal tubules from producing sensitivity.  It creates this barrier by extracting moisture from the soft tissues, so no gingival protection or barrier is needed. But, because teeth contain relatively little moisture, the hydroxyl radicals are free to penetrate the dental enamel and bleach the tooth surface.

5. Using the floor stand and articulating arm, position the full-arch tip about 1 cm away from the patient's mouth and switch the light to whitening mode. The tip will lighten both upper AND lower teeth at the same time. In whitening mode, the light will illuminate for 1 minute, stop for 30 seconds, in a continuous cycle.

6. After 10 minutes, the light stops automatically. The gel is removed, fresh gel applied and the process repeated for a second and third cycle. Best results are achieved by increasing cycle time to 2 times 10 minutes. When using this technique, the gel is stirred in place and reactivate the light for a second 10 minutes.

7. After the third session, the gel is completely removed and the teeth are rinsed.

8. An "after" picture is taken of the whitened teeth showing the new matching sample on the Vita® shade guide, clearly illustrating for the patient the number of shades his or her teeth have been whitened, and the effectiveness of the dentist's work.
